The Great Depression in Rural Iowa

Make it over - wear it over - make it do - or do without. Times were hard in rural Iowa; prices were low, mortgage rates were high, chores were never ending and available for all ages. Our depression kitchen has a cookstove, an unusual iceless refrigerator and the feeling of life in difficult times.

Also new are individual interviews of WWII veterans. These can be viewed in our historical library. People who remember WWII or the depression era are becoming fewer each year. We don't want to lose ther stories.

    .
The 50's kitchen has been completely re-done. It now features a Philco refrigerator and a new sink.

On the Victorian street, the visitors are treated to a new display of women's hand work, teapots & dolls.

Enjoy these new exhibits and build memories.
